Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

Taking place centuries after a cataclysmic event rendered the outside world inhabitable, we follow newly appointed Sheriff Juliette Nichols as she, & the other citizens of The Silo, deal with the dangers outside.. & within.
I want to start by saying that I really enjoyed this story. From the very first pages, it reeled me in with a number of mysteries that begged to be solved, & throughout the story I began to understand the nefarious elements at play. While the story isn’t wholly original, it is very entertaining to see just how everything in the Silo is structured. Additionally, there were many aspects of the story that did manage to genuinely surprise me.
What really interested me about this story, more so than its plot, was that it was derived from a novel. I’ve become used to Comicbooks being adapted into novels, but a book being adapted into a comic was something new to me, & so I felt the need to give it a chance. Having read it in this format, I’m very curious to see how it compares to the original text. I imagine this version enhanced the story in terms of providing illustration for some details that may have been difficult to imagine, visually speaking. Not only that, but it was a quick read, as I finished it in less than two hours.
However, even with those benefits, I can’t help but feel that the original book would be a more enjoyable experience. Comics often play out very similarly to movies (especially with Comixology’s guided view in effect.) While there are moments of introspective thought, it doesn’t compare to the amount of detail one receives whilst reading an actual book. As a result of this, certain relationships that may have been given more attention through non-dialogue moments in the original text seem to be glossed over, & the reader is left to assume that these brief interactions meant more than what is seen on the surface.
All in all, this story is worth the read - even if it does leave something to be desired in terms of detail (specifically when it comes to relationships.)
