Overanalyzing Anime

Now established in his role as the Bat of Gotham, the masked vigilante faces his greatest challenge yet as a new player joins the ranks of Gotham’s criminal underworld.
What makes The Dark Knight such an incredible film - & not just a movie (because there is a difference) - is the fact that it has such a profound #story to tell; one filled with darkness, struggle, & failure. This isn’t the MCU wherein, at the end of the film, the hero is victorious and the villain is vanquished, often never to be seen again. That’s not a knock on the Marvel movies (by the way) - it’s simply explaining how this film differs from those movies.
Much like its titular hero, this film embraces the darkness (to an almost depressing extent) because, for as much justice as The Bat is able to dish out, just as much corruption is left in its stead. Yes he cripples the criminal underworld, & even apprehends The Joker, but at what cost? Each victory is met with an equally negative response - the death of innocent civilians, the death of Gotham’s White Knight, as well as the death of the only woman Bruce Wayne ever loved. I suppose that’s just what happens when, “an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.”
Another aspect that differentiates this from other comic book movies is its introspective look at societies with the way the characters interpret societal rules & standards. The most interesting of these perspectives comes from the main antagonist, the Clown Prince of Crime (or, perhaps “chaos” would be a more appropriate term for this iteration of The Joker.) Practically everyone of his diatribes speaks to the inherent flaws of society.. & they’re all eerily accurate.
All in all, The Dark Knight is a standout and not only holds the top spot as one of my #FavoriteSuperhero flicks, but also as one of my favorite films of all time. With its dialogue about the nature of societies, its realistic take on the dangers & tragedies that come with a life of vigilantism, as well as its kick-ass moments of super-heroism, The Dark Knight is definitely, “the [movie] we deserve.”
My rating: 10/10
