Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

After discovering that extraterrestrials are headed towards Earth, Meyer Dempsy & his family must leave their familiar lives behind as they rush towards their private, heavily-fortified bunker. Their cross-country journey will be arduous as man, nature, & beyond fight to keep them from reaching their destination.
Like most anything these days, Invasion is not a wholly original endeavor. We’ve seen it time and time again in many different forms - whether it be in books, comics, television, or movies - aliens appear on Earth & chaos ensues. However, it’s not the originality of the project so much as how well it’s done. The dialogue sounds authentic, the characters feel organic, the world is familiar - except for a few tweaks that set it apart from what we’re used to.
Authors Platt & Truant are excellent writers &, as such, are able to depict their world with apparent ease. Their ability to describe their characters emotions & motivations is superb - especially as they must constantly switch from character to character, all of whom are, at their core, substantially different from one another.
One thing I’d like to add - & this may or may not be a SPOILER - but there aren’t any actual aliens in this story. While their presence heavily influences the story - and while their ships are seen on multiple occasions - we never actually see an #alien. I’ve found that this was a real detractor for a lot of people, though I didn’t necessarily feel that way. This book acted as a prequel of sorts - showing us the world before & during the aliens approach, which I feel will be necessary for the story as a whole. With more books in the #series, I’m sure we’ll soon get our fill of our extraterrestrial visitors.
All in all, Invasion tells a familiar story - but it manages to tell it very well. Authors Platt & Truant obviously have a deep understanding of #human behaviors, & as such, are able to provide us with a realistic depiction of what could occur in the case of an Alien invasion.
