Where Injustice Year One introduces & establishes the new world order, the second year throws fuel on the fire as things drastically escalate to the universal scale as the Lanterns enter the fray.
While Year One of Injustice creates an intriguing dialogue about what constitutes right & wrong (ex. the conversation between The Flash and Superman regarding guns), Year Two (in addition the final chapters of Year One) moves away from the debate and creates clearly defined lines on who the new heroes and villains are in this world. Yes, there are moments where you may sympathize with the the once-heroes-now-villains, but at the end of the day you understand what they’re doing is wrong.
The story picks up after the death of the Green Arrow who was beaten to a bloody pulp by Superman in a fit of rage. The fallout from Superman’s actions (rightfully) have people on edge, and as a result new heroes have joined Batman’s crusade to topple the new One Earth rule. In addition to this, both the Green Lantern Corps. and the Sinestro Corps. have taken notice of the shift in power on Earth and have made it their mission to protect the Earth; however, their methods in doing so are (obviously) very different.
There are many things I enjoyed about this year of Injustice – the inclusion of the Green Lanterns (my favorite super heroes), Jim Gordon and Dinah Lance’s storylines for the year, as well as watching both Hal Jordan and Superman become Yellow Lanterns. Perhaps the most intriguing aspects of this year was seeing just how low Superman had gone, and knowing (from playing the game) just how much worse it’s going to get from here on out.
While I did enjoy the debating from the first year, the action in this year more than makes up for it; that, coupled with seeing the heroes we love fall further from grace, makes for an interesting read. And, quite frankly, it doesn’t get much better than seeing an all-out war take place between the Green Lanterns and the (In)Justice League.
My review: 10/10
Stay tuned for Year Three tomorrow!
