Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

The third year of Injustice picks up immediately after the War of the Lanterns where we are introduced to John Constantine. While brief, John provides us with a different view of the war, one that shows us how catastrophic the event was for the people of Earth & just how many innocent people were caught up in the attacks – one in particular is especially important to him, as she was the mother of his daughter. Once John finds his daughter amidst the wreckage of her old home, he hastily takes her away & devises a plan that will ensure their safety. From there, with the help of the Insurgency, as well as other magical beings from the DC Universe, a new plan is set in motion to topple the One Earth Regime & remove Superman from his self-appointed throne.
This year I have to say that certain aspects of the story didn’t work for me, such as the Spectre/Myxlplyx vs. Trigon. Yes, it was a battle of epic proportions, but it wasn’t nearly as satisfying to watch as was the War of the Lanterns or even the more intimate, final confrontation between Batman & Superman at the end of Year One. The fight seemed messy & the way in which it ended didn’t do much for me either. That being said, the fallout from the final confrontation – Constantine getting what he ACTUALLY wanted – was pretty awesome.
My favorite part of this year came during the battle of Etrigan/Batman vs. Superman. Firstly, I absolutely loved the way Superman reacted to finding out that Batman had chosen to work alongside a demon before working with him; his pained reaction was definitely a memorable moment. But, what came after was especially moving because it showed a world wherein everything went right for Superman; where Metropolis was safe, Lois was alive, & their unborn child went on to live a fulfilling life – changing the world in ways her father was unable to. It was an interesting depiction of a far more familiar DCU; however, in this series, it’s but a dream.
All in all, Injustice Year Three doesn’t reach the same levels as the previous two years, but it’s still a lot of fun all the same.
My rating: 9.5/10
