Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

This week we’ll be discussing the epic story of Injustice, which stems from the video game of the same name & which takes place on a version of DC’s Earth very different from the one we’re familiar with.
Spoilers follow.
To briefly summarize the plot, Injustice: Year One tells the story of how The Joker set in motion a plan so nefarious & evil that it pushed the Man of Steel over the edge, resulting in him completely changing his views on the world, & how best to protect it. After losing the three things he cared about most (his city, his wife, & his child) he decides that he will never allow something so heinous to ever happen again & with the help of (certain) members of the League he enacts the One Earth Regime which effectively puts an end to all wars/conflicts. The DarkK night sees the dangers of the One Earth regime, & as such he makes it his mission to put an end to it with the help of his #Insurgency.
It’s not that Injustice is a wholly original project, but what it manages to do differently from other iterations such as the Justice Lords or the Crime Syndicate is the way in which it approaches the team dynamics. In other universes, when the Justice League goes rogue, they’re always a united front. This story does not follow that trope, & instead ops to show the division between the groups - with each side, be it the Regime or the Insurgency, believing what they’re doing is best for the world. The conflicting theories on what is best is just part of the reason this series is so incredibly entertaining.
Year One is an incredible project because it not only allows readers to see different sides of their favorite heroes, but it also presents readers with an awesome story that makes us wonder how we might behave if we were in these characters shoes. Whose side would we be on in this conflict? Injustice doesn’t make it an easy question to answer either, as both side operate in the grey.
All in all, Year One is an incredible read that really forces readers to think. It’s exciting, intelligent, thought-provoking, & just a helluva ride.
