Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

With the dissolution of the original Justice League in year one, an all out war with the Green Lanterns in year two, a showdown between sorcerers in year three, & a battle with the Gods themselves in year four it was obvious going into it that the fifth & final year of Injustice not only had to keep the momentum going, but also set the stage for the video game of which it was based on. Fortunately, Injustice: Year Five manages to do just that.
What I liked about this year was instead of trying to present these heroes/villains with yet another grand, unstoppable foe, such as Trigon or the Old/New Gods, it makes this year about the heroes & villains we’re familiar with. The biggest moments don’t come from the actions scenes, but instead from character moments such as Superman killing a group of Joker supporters, the death of Alfred (& the aftermath of that incident), as well as almost everything with The Flash.
I actually want to pay homage to The Flash because he had so many great moments this year, such as the individual talks he had with the members of the League about their actions, as well as saving Batman when he was going to be captured; however my absolute favorite moment came from his having a drink with what remained of “The Rogues,” after some of their members were killed. The Flash is one of my favorite characters, & it’s because of moments like this.
While a lot was great this year, I also have to say that I was let down by the cliffhanger from year four. My thought - & I know I may have been alone in this - was that it would have been a perfect replica of Superman, but one who was worse than the original in terms of his ideology. I thought, perhaps, the Superman we had seen so far would have had a moment of redemption, but ultimately would have still been killed by his doppelgänger. In hindsight I realize there are holes with my theory, but still, I thought it would have been a fun idea.
Injustice Year Five serves as an amazing ending that shows just how Superman (& the JLA) went from being our greatest heroes, to our worst nightmare.
