Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

This weeks issue begins with Soranik, Sinestro, and the other Green Lanterns returning to Oa after a daring escape from Harring. Upon their arrival to Oa, they are met by Salaak, who immediately questions them about what occurred. One Lantern explains that they were able to escape with the help of Hal Jordan who, with the power of a Red Power Ring, was able to stave off the enemies long enough for them to retreat.
The scene switches to Hal Jordan and the Red Lanterns as they discuss his fate. While Atrocitus wants him to join the Corps., Zillius Zox - another Red Lantern - thinks it would be in their best interest to kill him. Upon hearing Zox's suggestion, Hal immediately lashes out and attacks, leaving Zox with a laceration across his face. As Zox prepares to strike back, he is stopped by Atrocitus who wishes to speak with Hal Jordan.
Atrocitus tells Hal that he knows of his misdeeds, and that the stories of his treachery have spanned all across the universe. Seemingly admirable to Atrocitus, he asks Hal Jordan to join his Corps., stating that if he refuses, then he will surely die. Whether through the pressure of the situation, or a genuine wanting to, Hal says that he will join the Red Lantern Corps. With the matter now settled, Atrocitus tells the other Lanterns that he has a plan to take down the Green Lanterns once and for all, and that with this newfound power, he will finally have his revenge for the loss of his family and world.
Switching back to Earth, we are reintroduced to Conner Kent - the new Superman - as he sits, conflicted over the fact that his new heart once belonged to General Zod - the man who killed his best friend, Tim Drake. Mama Kent notices something is wrong and decides to sit and speak with him. The two converse about Conner's feelings about having the heart of an evil man inside of him, about what drove Superman to become evil, and about how Conner is a better man than both of them. Mama Kent then tells him that Cassie has arrived and wants to meet with him. Atop the Fortress of Solitude, the two reminisce about the teammates and friends that they've lost over the years, and come to the decision that it's time to recruit new members and rebuild the Titans.
On a distant planet we meet back up with the Atrocitus, Hal Jordan, and the other Red Lanterns. Atrocitus has promised them a powerful ally that will help to take down the Green Lanterns, and he does not disappoint. He places the Red Power Ring on the surface of the planet and we watch as the power from the ring spreads throughout the planets surface. As the scene pans outward, we see that it isn't, in fact, a planet - but instead one of the most fearsome entities in the universe.. Starro, the Conqueror.
This weeks deviation from the Lanterns arc with Conner, Mama Kent, and Cassie was a nice change of pace. It's interesting seeing Conner take on the role of Superman, but I can't help but wonder how long this will last. While the Injustice 2 comic does change certain aspects of the story, it doesn't get too drastic with it; even still, when it does change direction in a big way, it manages to correct the aberration. Such as when Supergirl joined the battle against Amazo in issues 47-49; they made it so she took the android into space and fought against it there, with only Blue Beetle witnessing what happened, and promising not to say anything.
This situation with Conner, on the other hand is a bit different. Since he's not in the games' story mode and doesn't help to fight against Braniac, one can only assume that he's been taken out of the equation somehow. It could be a peaceful transition, such as him being called to another universe that needs his and the other Titans help. Or, it could be much worse, and we may see the death of a Superman in this comic. While I hope, for his sake, that it's the former, I imagine it'll be pretty exciting to witness the latter if they happen to remove him that way. Only time will tell.
My only gripe with this chapter is that yet another week has passed and we're still not any closer to understanding what it is Atrocitous wants with Sinestro. We understand that both he and Bleez have a mutual disdain for him, but aside from that, there's no information to go on as of right now. In fact, it seems as though the focus is now less with getting Sinestro, and more on demolishing the Green Lanterns - however, the case could be made that they're simply killing two birds with one stone.
I'm very curious as to what Sinestro has done to have them chase after him so adamantly. Is it because he's a Yellow Lantern? Unlikely, as they were willing to allow Hal Jordan to join, even though he, too, was a Yellow Lantern. One could make the claim that it was because he was the leader of the Yellow Lanterns, but the way in which they're hunting him speaks to something far more personal. I'm very excited to see what it might be - hopefully the next issue will provide us with more information.
The addition of Starro is also an exciting prospect. A massive alien with psychic powers is nothing to scoff at, and the idea of having his powers amplified by a Red Power Ring? Yikes. The Green Lanterns will definitely have there work cut out for them once this onslaught begins. I'm excited to see just how brutal this will get, and just how long Hal will keep up his ruse of being on their side - or, even if it's a ruse at all.
This was yet another exciting chapter in the Injustice 2 saga. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below, and be sure to check out more of our work by browsing the site!
