Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

This weeks’ issue moved away from the Earth based issues of both the Ra’s Al Ghoul and Supergirl plots in lieu of taking readers across the universe to Oa, where Hal Jordan - once the mightiest of the Green Lanterns - faces trial for his crimes against his fellow Corps. members.
This weeks issue came as a welcome surprise because, in all honesty, I had forgotten about Hal Jordan in the world of Injustice; out of sight, out of mind I suppose. Getting to see exactly how his trial went down was definitely interesting, and I’m even more interested in what he’ll have to endure to have his powers restored. In the game, if i remember correctly, he said that the Guardians “put him through hell,” so I hope the extent of his punishment isn’t digging holes for however long.
It was also nice to see that Hal Jordan was having a difficult time dealing with the death of Guy Gardner now that he was no longer under the effects of the Yellow Lantern ring. With his mind clear, he could finally grieve his friend and deal with the emotional repercussions of his heinous actions.
Hal’s conversation with Soranik (the biological daughter of Sinestro) was also insightful. During their conversation she made a particularly compelling point that I couldn’t help but appreciate it in hindsight, claiming that Hal did nothing as he, “allowed the last survivor of a dead planet to be the murderer of another world.”
Years ago, when I first read that chapter (Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Two, Issue #24) I didn’t take in the gravity of what Superman had done. At the time, I was too focused on the Man of Steel’s latest transformation and the fact that he was overpowering a Guardian of the Galaxy.. erm, I mean, Universe. It didn’t really register that, in his attempt to “protect” our planet, he ultimately doomed another to the same fate as his old home world, Krypton. The irony was definitely lost on me at the time.
It’ll ben interesting to see where the story goes from here. Why is Dex-starr on this planet? Is he here for Hal for the same reason Atrocitous sought him out on Earth? Also, will Sinestro play a major role in this story now that he has arrived on the planet? I suppose we’ll get some answers next week.
