Overanalyzing Anime

Twenty years ago humanity was forced to leave Earth in the face of the devastating power of strange, other-worldly behemoths. Now, with few options left, the remnants of humanity makes their return to their home planet, where (due to light speed travel) over 10,000 years have passed. While many of the massive creatures seem to have died off, one titan still reigns supreme in the chaotic, primitive world.. Godzilla.
Now, I‘m no expert on Godzilla, but it’s my belief that a story like this has never been told before. Godzilla, while often destructive, is usually depicted as the hero of the story - vanquishing other monsters that seek to cause harm. I know that versions of the creature do exist that don’t carry the mantle of protector, but, for the most part, I’ve always thought of Godzilla in that regard. This movie adopts a different point of view - while still having Godzilla reign as “King of Monsters,” this version of the creature does not differentiate between us & any of the other Kaiju.
In addition to that, he’s HUGE! I remember reading an article that described the version from the 2014 movie as the largest ever. Well, not anymore. I don’t know the exact dimensions of this newest version, but it puts the others to shame. Apparently it was eating good for those 10,000+ years. And, not only is it large, but it’s *terrifyingly* powerful - wiping out anything in its path with ease.
While I’ve seen Godzilla in animated form before - in the 1998 cartoon - I’ve never seen him quite like this. It’s incredible how detailed he look - so much in fact that, upon my selecting the #movie, I thought it was a new live-action Netflix original. It’s really incredible what the production team was able to accomplish. • In regard to future movies, I can’t help but feel that Mecha Godzilla will make a resurgence. The mechanized beast was alluded to multiple times, and I’m hoping the two battle at some point.
For the first entry in a planned Trilogy, Godzilla: PotM is an excellent movie & it definitely has me excited for whatever’ll come next.
My rating: 9/10
