Overanalyzing Anime

While comparing these two universes is interesting, the differences between them can really be summed up to one essential thing – VISION. The MCU had it (literally and figuratively), the DCEU did not. From the moment Nick Fury stepped from the shadows & revealed himself to Tony Stark, we knew something big was coming.
The films that followed each provided a piece to the larger whole – from Stark’s appearance in The Incredible Hulk; to Cap’s prototype shield & Mjolnir showing up in Ironman 2; to Coulson & Hawkeye appearing in Thor, & the introduction of the first Infinity Stone in The First Avenger. Each film continued the story of the last, until it all culminated in the first Avengers film. Everything was meticulously planned, & as such, the payoff was well worth it. Even now the MCU has continued to carefully weave a story that will come to a close (of sorts) with this years InfinityWar.
The issue the DCEU has is that, upon its inception, it did not have the same sort of vision. Firstly, upon the creation of Man of Steel, there was no established plan to continue that franchise into a shared universe. Then, once the plan was put into motion, instead of taking their time to tell these heroes stories’ the way they should’ve been told, they decided to speed through the process in order to keep up with studios such as the MCU & Fox Studios. What could have been a half a dozen movies, or more, was turned into four movies – two of which (Suicide Squad & Wonder Woman) did little to nothing to enhance the overall story of the universe as a whole.
The DCEU has been a muddled mess so far but that just means that there is a lot of room for improvement, & improve I’m certain they will. While the first five films of the MCU were good, they weren’t perfect – missteps were taken, sometimes in the form of an entire film (here’s to you, Iron Man 2). But they learned & improved & now they’re pushing out solid movies every time. I am confident that, with time, the DCEU will be doing the same. We just have to give them time.
That’s all for this series - let me know what you think in the comments.
