Overanalyzing Anime

Okay, so let’s talk about STAKES. To do that, we need to talk about characters. Let’s start again with the #DCEU. Look at their roster. You have an alien (who essentially cannot be killed), a Demi-God (whose father is Zeus), a technological alien/human-hybrid, a man with the ability to distort (& often break) time & space, & a Merman (which I realize doesn’t sound all that threatening, but still.) Oh, & the middle-aged man in the bat costume. Sorry, forgot about him. But, really – look at that. What’s going to stop them? I surely didn’t think ol’ #Steppenwolf & his #parademons were going to do the job (even if the film wanted me to believe that.)
But, that’s not even my real point. How do you make the stakes high when you have a team like this with, “room for more?” It makes me wonder how they’re going to make me care about future ensemble conflicts with a team like this protecting the planet. I understand #Darkseid is a force to be reckoned with, but they’re really going to have to show that in the next ensemble piece, because as of right now I have no fear that the #JLA will demolish any threat that comes their way. I mean they’ve literally shown that even Gods cower before them; just ask Steppenwolf.
Now let’s take a look at the #MCU’s #Avengers roster up until #Phase1. You have the man in the metal suit (albeit a damn good one), the super soldier, the rage monster, the God (or alien, depending on who you’re asking), & a couple of spies. Now, while this lineup is nothing to scoff at – the DCEU’s #Superman would DEMOLISH them on his own; let’s not even get started on how much worse it’d be if he brought his #Superfriends along for the ride.
But, see, that’s my point. The Avengers are not all-powerful, which makes their struggle during the #BattleofNewYork all the more compelling. While Kal can get hit with a nuke & walk it off, I don’t imagine the outcome being the same for the Avengers. While I knew no Avenger would die in the film, I was still engaged during the final act, while the battle in #JusticeLeague had me wondering when they’d hurry up & finish him.
