Overanalyzing Anime
Blog Owner & Lead Writer

I first saw the Truth or Dare trailer about a month ago, & unlike most horror film trailers, it managed to stick with me. Perhaps it was the idea of taking a relatively innocent game & turning it into something perverse & terrifying; or maybe it was the slew of familiar faces from a number of my favorite tv shows & movies; but, truthfully, it probably was because of that *face* - you know the one I’m taking about.
This particular trailer doesn’t deviate much from the usual horror movie format; we’re introduced to people living lives of relative teenage normalcy, a supernatural threat is presented, followed by a number of quick glimpses at what the unknown entity has in store for its young victims. I’m not so much heralding this for being profound, but I will say that it is interesting.
As I mentioned before, the idea of taking a relatively simple concept & making it scary is something I’ve always felt is a recipe for a fun time. Take for example It Follows, (which is essentially a PSA about safe sex) which is lauded as an exceptional horror movie; its concept is simple, & takes something like casual sex (which should be a fun experience) & turns it into something absolutely horrifying. And it works. Now I’m not saying this movie will reach the same levels as that particular film, but I have a feeling that this will be an entertaining movie nonetheless.
I’m also very excited about the prospect of seeing some of these actors take on new roles. While Lucy Hale is no stranger to being hunted by an enigmatic figure, there are some actors (such as The Flash’s Violette Beane & Arrow’s Nolan Gerard Funk) that I’m interested in seeing outside of their usual roles.
All in all, while I’m not a big horror movie fan, I’m genuinely intrigued by this movie. While it probably won’t break any records, I feel like it’ll be a fun flick. Look for my review of it next month!
Until then, let me know your thoughts on the trailer in the comments section!
